First Learning Steps

The blog is hosted by WordPress. It is being written with JetPack. These are new tools in my bag, and clearly it will take me some time to learn them and become proficient. I will to a large degree use the iPad as the primary blogging device, keeping the serious publishing work on the Mac Book, using Canvas/Affinity Layout to create PDF’s and send to Blurb to print.

I guess I will have to keep everything on this blog duplicated for print, as I’ve already lamented on my Flickr site how digital content is all destined to evaporate.

It always amazes me how people actually expect computers to organize their ideas and lives. No, your mind needs to have control over your content, not Google. I personally think this whole AI thing will prove useless. I’ve used it for simple tasks, and it’s capable but, for complex thinking and knowledge tasks it leaves a lot to be desired. I recently researched the presence of Austrian troops/police in Russia during the period of 1906-1909. The initial answer was that there were no troops because that would have marked war between the two rival nations. Unfortunately the engine failed to understand that Austria, and Austria-Hungarian troops were in many other countries, within the Austrian State, such as Galicia. Now, from there, it turns out there was lots of trans border anti-revolutionary activity coordinated between many police, military, and underground “private” police. So, how can we “trust” a knowledge base that we have already proved to be unable to know the whole truth?

Where do I want this Website to go? Well there will be password protected sub-folders dealing with family history, and perhaps, one day a fire-walled writing blog. We need to crawl before walking, before running.
