I’ve been watching many, no, make that MANY YT vids that have repeated this claim, which is particularly important to the discussion of the Canadian Government decision to reconsider the Grippen E vs. the F35. The problem is that these videos have been dismissed by the government, making them appear arrogant and out of touch. This claim is all over the aviation forums and the Canada First forums, even getting a CBC headline.
Here’s the problem. It’s nonsense, replicated, amplified and unsubstantiated.
According to SAAB and RR, after 25 years of development of flight and system integration and testing, you can’t simply swap an engine, because that requires a complete integration re-design, testing, recertification, and that would take 5-10 years.
The critics say the B52J re-engine is behind schedule and over budget, and they started 5 years ago and don’t expect the engines on the wings till, 2032 or 33 (depending on the source). That’s because lay people, even PhD’s in subjects other than the specified field, just don’t understand, don’t have the requisite experience, to comment, but still feel the need to write BS news articles to rile up their own particular followers. This is all one reason why “citizen journalism” is probably MORE dangerous than corporate controlled media. One citizen journalist “makes something up, or spins the top wildly,” and the next ones say, according that that source blah, blah, blah. It’s the proverbial circle jerk. Where’s the beef?
